The Opportunity

Are you a skilled Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in your career? We are seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor to play a key role in delivering diverse and challenging civil engineering projects. This is an opportunity to work within a dynamic team, driving cost efficiencies, managing commercial risks, and influencing project success.

With project values ranging from £200k to £10m+, you will be at the heart of commercial decision-making, providing accurate financial reporting, identifying commercial opportunities, and ensuring successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Management

  • Deliver accurate and timely cost and value reporting at both project and business unit levels.

  • Provide precise cash flow forecasts and cost management insights.

  • Draft and maintain monthly cost value reconciliation (CVR) reports and commercial plans.

  • Oversee subcontract procurement, negotiation, and financial management.

  • Prepare applications for payment and manage cash flow effectively.

  • Engage with clients and third parties on commercial issues, including contract variations and claims.

  • Identify, track, and capitalize on commercial opportunities while mitigating risks.

Contracts & Supply Chain Management

  • Effectively manage contract and subcontract agreements, primarily NEC forms.

  • Ensure contracts align with corporate governance, managing risks and opportunities effectively.

  • Lead procurement and post-contract management of subcontracted works.

  • Maintain strong relationships with the supply chain and key stakeholders.

Process & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with internal commercial processes, meeting deadlines and reporting requirements.

  • Continuously seek process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage and mentor junior team members, supporting their professional development.

  • Conduct personal development reviews (PDRs) and implement training plans.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Proven experience in the construction industry.

  • Strong understanding of NEC contracts and construction law.

  • Demonstrated experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors.

  • Skilled in forecasting, cost analysis, and financial reporting.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong numerical and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management abilities.

Desirable

  • Member of RICS or working towards professional accreditation.

  • CSCS cardholder.

  • HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification.

  • Experience in estimation.

  • Previous experience with direct delivery contractors.
